Six beautiful tri coloured pups, 3 boys and 3 girls!

Poor Lola is exhausted, 48hrs of 1st stage labour, panting, restless and very unsettled. She was determined to be in the under stairs cupboard and kept hiding amongst the junk in there, so yesterday I cleared the cupboard out for her and put her bed in. She immediately went in and got comfy, and slept most of the day.

Last night, I slept on the floor in the kitchen and set an alarm for every couple of hours to check her. I needn't have bothered because at 05:55 this morning Lola crept in bed beside me (if you can call it a bed!) and proceeded to lick my hand whilst pushing for England!

The first pup was born feet first and still in it's sack, nature took over and Lola soon had it out and breathing. Within 15 minutes it was feeding! Another pup arrived, like clockwork, every 30 minutes until the last two, which came virtually together. As Lola was busy cleaning up, I helped with the last!

I am amazed at how wonderful nature is, and watched with admiration as Lola meticulously cleaned every inch of every pup, and so delicately yet precisely chewed each cord off.

Once all the pups were born, Lola relaxed and slept as the pups found their way to a teat each. I took each pup in turn and checked them over, weighed them and charted their statistics! Lola was not worried but kept a watchful eye on me!

Finally, I moved the pups and a very different shaped Lola into the whelping box, where she is now settled and snoozing.
