All is well with the pups

All is well with Lola and the pups. Lola is still ridiculous about food, preferring raw meat to anything else. She looks at me as though I am mad when I offer her 'dog food', even the most expensive little pouches! She seems to have struck a deal with our cat, Elvis, who happily trades a freshly caught baby rabbit for the pouches!

Lola is happier to leave the pups for longer periods now, and is delighted to be out and about on the farm, and even happier to 'fit' in the holes she used to! Before she gets back in with the pups, she sits outside the whelping box and washes every inch of herself, paying particular attention to her teats. Poor Lola, her teats are bruised and sore from the feisty pups sucking on her, I'm sure she is looking forward to weaning time!

The pups are coming on great guns, they have all gained weight, most have doubled their birth weight! I am weighing them daily, to get them used to the handling and human contact, and most are comfortable with this. Sally's pup (possibly named Goose!) however, grumbles with the sweetest growl whenever she is taken from the nest. She sounds a bit like a Gremlin, very cute!

The pups ears and eyes are beginning to open, and they are becoming more agile and active, although are not on their feet yet. We have been moving them into the sitting room on an evening, again to socialise them to noise etc. Lola thinks is marvellous as she can see them from the sofa, keeping her eye on them whilst having lots of attention herself! We can't wait until they are all running around, causing havoc!

Requests for the pups are coming thick and fast, I don't think I'll have enough to go around! Sally's boyfriend, James is having a bitch pup and has called her Stella!

Toby and I are having the first born dog pup, Toby is adamant he is called 'Thomas' after his beloved 11 year old cousin, I have different ideas, preferring 'Pan' or 'Smee', as Lola is officially called 'Neverland Lola' and would like to keep the theme. We'll see!

A lady who lives locally is coming to see the remaining bitch later today. Sadly, her previous Jack died aged 15 years, last year. Another local lady, whose son goes to school with Toby, would like a pup and is coming tomorrow to see the two remaining pups.
